EastEuro Link hosted its CEE Renewables Conference on 28th March 2008 in the beautiful city of Prague. The event was a tremendous opportunity for current and potential investors to enhance their understanding of CEE Renewables market and the best investment strategies to pursue. Taking place in the 5 stars Ambassador Zlata Husa Hotel in Prague, the event was attended by a range of investors, consultants, advisors and renewable energy companies.

 

Mr. Clifford J. Aron, Principal of GreenMax Capital Advisors, introduced the conference and chaired the event excellently throughout the day. He briefly evaluated the situation in the world energy and environment crises with a focus on CE Europe’s energy challenges and EU progress on renewables. Mr. Cosmin Stavaru, Senior Associate of Bulboaca & Asociatii SCA, then gave an overview of the opportunities in Romania and incentives for investments in renewable sources electricity sector in this country. This was followed by a presentation on Estonian aspect of financing renewable energy projects in open electricity market by Mr. Kalle Kiigske, Chairman of the board of Freeenergy from Estonia. Ms. Lynn Tabernacki, Senior Manager of OPIC gave a significant contribution to the conference agenda presenting US Government Agency renewable energy projects financing opportunities in the CEE region.


 

After a lively networking coffee break, Mr. Clifford Aron launched the discussion on risk perspectives in financing renewable energy projects in the CEE region. Then Mr Jose Luis Bobes, managing partner of GreenMax Iberia presented different finance models and finace securitisation in renewable energy projects. To conclude the panel on project financing Mr. Martin Dasek, Country Programme Manager for Czech Republice of International Finance Corporation gave a speech concentrating on CEEF programme and financing mix for renewables in CEE.

Following a lunch break where delegates benefited from more networking opportunities, Ms. Itske Lulof, Business Development Manger of Evelop International, presented the Econcern Group and especially Evelop work in developing and realizing sustainable energy projects. The following panelists explored isuues such as whether the current market trends lead to the right mix of RE resources. Mr. Andreas Wiese, Director of Lahmeyer International, presented risk analysis and financial optimisation of wind, solar and biomass project portfolios concluding that further increase of the portfolio performance is expected through technology and regional diversification. Mr. Christian Grutte, Managing Partner of Leonardo Venablers, focused on CEE wind sector predicting that Current activities will lead to investments for 3-4 GW to be installed by 2010 with further growth potential of 10-20 GW by 2020 in entire CEE region. Conference participants also had opportunity to hear about different aspects of Southern Germany deep hydro-geothermal projects from Mr. Christian Schönwiesner-Bozkurt, Associate Partner of Rodl & partner GbR.


 

Two more interesting presentations folowed the afternoon networking break: Mr. Volker Jaensch, Regional Manager of Eastern Europe, One Carbon, spoke about Co-financing Renewable Energy Projects with Carbon Credits in the CEE Region and Mr. Julian Spassov, Partner at McGregor & Partners focused on main legal issues concerning the process of erection of wind farms under the Bulgarian Legislation.

After highly informative conference day, all the participants continued networking in a more relaxing atmosphere at a cocktail party hosted by EastEuro Link.

The event brought together a number of influential players in CEE Renewables to engage in numerous discussions and listen to some excellent insights into the field.
