The 5th Annual EastEuro Link Energy Conference for Central and Southeast Europe took place in Bulgarian Capital Sofia on 20-21 September 2007. It provided an overview of recent developments in the region’s energy industry and insights into the future of the sector. Once again this exceptional gathering brought together energy experts who discussed the development of the Energy Community, ongoing and future project perspectives and key issues facing the industry today.

Ms. Veneta Tzvetkova, Head of Energy Markets Department, Ministry of Economy and Energy of Republic of Bulgaria welcomed the participants on behalf of H.E. Petar Dimitrov, Minister of Economy and Energy, Republic of Bulgaria.

Ms. Veneta Tzvetkova, Head of Energy Markets Department, Ministry of Economy and Energy of Republic of Bulgaria

Ms. Tzvetkova also gave very interersting presentation on the Development of the Energy Community pointing out the significance of the Energy Community Treaty for the region and its most important implications.

The Bulgarian Chanber of Commerce and Industry and Bulgarian Energy Efficiency Fund gave significant contributions through the presentations of their representatives.


Mr. Istvan Pataki, Vice-President, Hungarian Energy Office
The panel on Renewable Energy brought different perspectives on the topic from the representatives of the Hungarian Energy office, New Europe Corporate Advisory and AES Wind Generation. Mr. Istvan Pataki, Vice-President of the Hungarian Energy Office presented Competition Forecast between Energy Networks and Household Renewable Energy Sources and conference participants were also offered the opportunity to learn about the current state of play in renewables in Bulgaria and AES Alternative energy projects.
 

The CSEE Electricity Market and the opportunities for oil & gas business chain in the region were also examined in Sofia. Mr. Svatopluk Zeman, Advisor on International Power Trade in the Balkans and Mr. Zdenek Danielovsky, Executive Director of CEZ Trade Bulgaria provoked considerable discussion on the CSEE electricity market landscape among conference participants.

This was followed by one of the most acknowledged experts on oil and gas issues in the Balkan and Black Sea region, Mr. Valentin Kunev, Manager of the Balkan and Black Sea Petroleum Association and Mr. Vladislav Nikolov, Overgas representative.

Another important topic on financing energy projects in the CSEE region was included in the programme of this two-day conference. Mr. Ian Stanley, Director of European Energy Investments and Mr. Gueorgui Horozov from Black Sea Trade and Development Bank closed the conference, examining this issue of the vital importance for the further growth of the energy sector in this region.

The 5th Annual Energy Conference for Central and Southeast Europe presented a mix of case studies, presentations and networking opportunities with the region’s leading industry representatives and decision makers.
